Children & Youth

Teenagers and younger children are able to receive counselling at Home and Family as part of a group or on an individual basis.

All the counsellors who provide these services are specially trained in child and youth counselling, and have an active interest in working with children and young people.

Issues frequently effecting children and young people range from self-esteem, relationship changes, developing discipline and other school issues, through to the impacts of parents separating, eating disorders, depression and behavioural problems.

Marvelz programme

The Marvelz Young Person's Programme, developed by Home and Family, is a 10-session course for children and young people who have witnessed domestic violence. It is a programme approved by the Department of Courts.

It covers aspects of self-care and self-education; and educates children towards safe management of future situations, should they ever arise. Importantly it provides closure for children on the violence they have witnessed and leads them towards a future where they can have emotional health and happiness.

In many, but not all cases, the young person's parent is usually under a court protection order as a victim of domestic violence, and is also receiving court-referred counselling through Home and Family.

Home and Family Society is registered to deliver this programme to all children but also has a specific registration to help Asian children.
