Cost and Duration

Cost

Private counselling is on a donation-basis and is tax deductible (to 33%). Our receptionist at Mt Eden and North Shore can guide you as to an appropriate donation based on your income or you can view our scale of suggested donations.

Women who have been referred by the Family Courts would be eligible to have their donation covered by this department. Women who encounter domestic violence and have a Protection Order in place would be entitled to 10 sessions of counselling paid by  the Family Court.

Clients who are currently on a Disability Allowance may be eligible to claim their counselling donation through WINZ.

Each session costs us approximately $110 to provide.

Suggested donations range from $30 per session for an individual or couple, and $40 for a family session (based on a $10,000 household income/year) up to $130/$160 for people earning over $65,000 each year (based on an individual/couple rate and a family session).

Donation Scale

If your household income is up to: Individual or Couple Session: Family Session:
$10,000/year $30 $40
$20,000/year $45 $65
$30,000/year $60 $80
$40,000/year $80 $100
$50,000/year $100 $120
$60,000/year $120 $140
$65,000+/year $130 $160

Any donation above $110 will assist us to help other people in need.

Session Length

Each private session is between 50 - 60 minutes for individuals, up to 90 minutes for family sessions.

Counselling Duration

There is no 'set' number of counselling sessions a person may have or require - naturally this is a personal consideration determined by you and your counsellor. As an average only, many people benefit from counselling every two to three weeks over a period of a few months.

Cancellations

The appointment we make with you, we hold especially for you. If you find you have to cancel an appointment for any reason, please give us as much notice of this as possible so we can find a substitute from our waiting list. Our policy is that we require a minimum of 24 hours notice of a cancellation or rescheduling. If you fail to arrive for an appointment, we will ask you for a donation to help cover this cost to us.
