1. What is the counselling goal of your organisation?

To assist people to explore presenting concerns in a way that enables them to build on existing strengths, gain new understandings, insights and resources for a better future.  To enable them to experience a sense of being healed and empowered.

2. Is there a particular perspective/theory that you work by?

The counsellors here work from a broad range of modalities.  These can include; client-centred, narrative, solution focused, TA, Gestalt, CBT, DBT, Jungian, psychodynamic, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Non-Violent Communication,

3. What Micro skills are commonly used?

Attending, reflective listening, empathising, hypothesizing, seeking clarification, summarising, open-ended questions,

4. Have you come across any culturally dependent problems within your organization and if so, what were they?    What strategies are employed to ensure cultural sensitivity is achieved?

We attempt to provide some counsellors from different cultures and currently have on staff an Indian and a Chinese counsellor.  We also have a pool of cultural consultants for counsellors to consult when needed.  Counsellors here have all attended various courses on working cross-culturally.   A respectful and sensitive stance towards all clients is the cornerstone of our practice.  We consult with clients directly about their experience of us, and what they might need, where cultural differences may throw up issues of understanding or mis-communication.
